Despite the approaching holiday season representing a time of joy, many local residents are struggling to cope with throes of chronic homelessness. A 2012 study found that, among mid-sized cities, Tampa and the surrounding area had the highest number of homeless individuals at nearly 7,500 (1). Skinspirations, a Tampa Bay nonsurgical cosmetic center (http://www.skinspirations.com/), has responded to the prevalence of the local homeless and low-income populations by hosting a charity event for current clients to gather non-perishable foods items to donate to HEP (http://www.ethep.org/?page=home). The annual event will be held Thursday October 30, from 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Homelessness is a global issue but its devastation within the Tampa Bay area is further exacerbated by the lack of affordable homeless shelters, much less affordable permanent housing. According to University of South Florida Ph.D. student, Tasha Rennels, most Tampa Bay shelters charge $10 to $42 per night for a single person. (1) But HEP has long taken steps to remedy the plight faced by those without permanent housing, an effort which Skinspirations owner Dr. Cynthia Elliot has made a personal mission as part of her dedication to giving back to the local community.

Dr. Elliott, along with the assistance of her Skinspirations staff, has organized a Halloween-themed charity event in which VIP guests are being asked to donate much-needed canned goods and personal hygiene items for those in need. In exchange for the donations, Skinspirations staff members will conduct demonstrations of theme-friendly “ghoulish” aesthetic medicine techniques and will also educate attendees of the importance of the proper techniques during nonsurgical procedures.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet the Skinspirations practitioners and ask questions. Additionally, Dr. Elliott will perform a Voluma treatment – the first FDA-approved filler for correcting volume loss in the cheeks – while licensed esthetician Gale Pingleton will perform the VI Peel, a chemical peel that contains a synergistic blend of powerful ingredients suitable for all skin types and provides dramatic results with virtually no pain and little downtime.

Dr. Elliott maintains that all business owners should have an influential impact on the communities in which they reside – in the cosmetic medicine industry, Elliott and her staff regularly holds events to get patients involved in helping the community, as well.

“HEP strives to be one of the most impactful non-profit organizations in the area and many local residents are dependent upon its resources,” added Jackie Dryden, Director of Development at HEP. “Our mission of not only providing a helping hand, but also guiding people in improving their quality of life so they can become contributing members of society again is an initiative that we are honored to have Skinspirations support with.”

Skinspirations’ charity event directly benefits the HEP and its community outreach program. Skinspirations has participated in several community-focused programs in other facets, including the Metropolitan Ministries’ annual toy drive, and will continue to do so.

Cari Baker, a makeup artist for beauty pageants such as Miss Universe, will give attendees makeup lessons – Baker will also soon utilize Skinspirations’ makeup application room to film makeup segments with Laura Harris on Now Tampa Bay.

While themed costumes are preferred, they are not required. Availability is limited so guests are encouraged to R.S.V.P. by calling (727) 571-1923 or by emailing Skinspirations.

Dr. Elliott is a former emergency & trauma doctor with the experience and expertise to perform a wide array of nonsurgical procedures in her Tampa Bay cosmetic facility (http://www.skinspirations.com/). With a practice devoted exclusively to cosmetic and laser procedures, Dr. Elliott is often sought out to perform Botox injections by the medical representatives that sell the products she utilizes.
